Blog Post 1: Right Winged Media
Disclaimer: This is intended for educational purposes only and my personal beliefs. I don’t intend or condemn violence on these issues and views.
I’m a student studying at Ryerson University and personally more of a left-winged liberal/democrat. But on October 5–6 I decide for the next 2 days I’ll be switching over to right-winged media and experience and understand their views and how it impacts me (mentally). The media I focused on is a known legend of being a republican Alex Jones and his own media platform Infowars. I also looked at a bit of Fox News but I was mainly using Info news as they use fox news content in their shows. Looking over their website at https://www.infowars.com/ and show. As it is the most opposite view from my beliefs.
Starting off with the Alex Jones Show, which is usually 3–4 hours long, the podcast/show surprised me. How they influence their audience with a certain point of view. But one thing in particular anything relating to Donald Trump. For example, focusing on Walter Reed known as Trump Doctor. Giving Trump an experimental antibody cocktail made by Regeneron (The Hill). Then Alex Jones expresses Walter Reed as a man potentially killing the president and bringing a doctor to fact check. There’s a more in-depth video called, “Is Walter Reed Killing President Trump With Experimental Treatments” on Banned.video.
Also, anything that makes Donald Trump look good on the media. For example, this tweet from Allie Raffa (a campaign reporter for FoxNews) shows Trump’s supporters greeting Biden during his travels at Gettysburg. Then Infowars expressed this tweet as “Enthusiasm for President Trump high — even at Biden events!” (Inforwars.com). Expressing Trump supporters are nice and sweet which seems true. I don’t know how to say this but it’s like I have only been seeing the bad side by right-winged media but looking from there networks it’s not too bad (not like 100% perfect or clean) but fair. They do research, having workers working around the clock especially during an election year and etc.
One thing I haven’t realized is how much god/religion plays a factor in their viewpoints. Before I started watching, I assume they do not believe in science but after watching the Alex Jones Show. They do value science but prefer a natural process and not experimental science. But some of the crazy things I see is when Alex Jones talks about masks and how people who are wearing masks are “under a spell” and a “creature of the devil” (The Alex Jones Show 17:30–18:00). I can’t believe it! But I must understand that god, especially in right winged states, plays a huge factor in their culture. For example, Texas is known for God, Guns and football. As it plays such a huge factor in culture this can be seen in the tv show Friday Night Lights.
Overall I can just say “Wow” my views are totally fried. I used to dislike right-winged news and never watch them unless its for entertainment purposes. But you gotta give them respect. As they are like us. Educated, trained and professional just like left-winged media but with a different viewpoint.
